Jayson Owens, CFP®

Partner, Financial Advisor

Jayson Owens is a fee-only fiduciary CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ with offices in Anchorage, AK and Tacoma, WA, serving clients throughout the U.S. He works with clients, both in person and virtually, to optimize their unique financial situations. As a fiduciary, he focuses on comprehensive financial planning, sudden wealth issues, and investment management to help clients in all financial situations organize, grow, and protect their assets.

Who I work with

I work with clients who are smart, humble, and appreciative people interested in asset management, because they want to focus on their goals, their lives, and their expertise.

My clients typically prefer experiences over things. They tend to be family oriented and feel a responsibility, or at least desire, to improve the world around them and the lives of those less fortunate. Frequently, their hobbies are related to human-powered recreation and/or the outdoors. They are interested in sustainable investing options, but don’t necessarily want to sacrifice return or put their goals at risk.

My process always starts with an actual comprehensive financial plan, so anyone who is focused solely on investment selection won’t be a good fit.

How I Got Here

I became interested in financial planning at a young age. I realized that my life’s passion as an outdoor adventure guide would not completely support my family, but was unwilling to take a job that I didn’t love just for money. I had studied investing voraciously and made both good and bad investments along the way. I sometimes hired financial advisors, but I felt that the information I was getting was at best incomplete or at worst conflicted and wrong for me personally.

When I discovered the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ program, I found my home as a fee-only financial planner. Prior to this, I had unwittingly built a strong skill set that became the perfect foundation for providing great financial planning and advice. My natural creativity honed in architecture and painting, combined with 15 years of small business management and strategic planning, provide much more practical experience than many advisors with more “financial industry” experience can bring to bear.

I’ve spent years coaching individuals in cashflow management, productivity, and efficiency, and passionately study behavioral economics.

Finally, years of outdoor adventure guiding and real estate investment management brought me enough risk assessment and risk management experience to fill several lifetimes. (READ: I’ve made the mistakes, so you don’t have to!)

All of this to say, you will benefit from my diverse experiences through my unique ability to recognize patterns. I focus on seeing the broad picture – your lifetime goals balance with your current quality of life – and I have the technical knowledge to identify and overcome the obstacles to the success of your plan.

Along with my wife of over 19 years and two young children, I spend much of my free time traveling in the outdoors – fatbiking, skiing, hiking, whitewater rafting and camping. I also still teach Wilderness First Aid for NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School).
